Abstract
SABEVA, I., 2000. Sources of specific variance and heritability of race time and speed in Arabian horses from Shagia type. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 6: 345-348
The study was made on the basis of the results from race trails of Arabian horses from Shagia type, born in Kabiuk stud during the last two generation intervals. The variance analysis of race time and speed and the coefficients of heritability were calculated by the mixed model methodology.
Sources of specific variance regarding the studied traits were mothers' lines, trainers, track conditions, distances and temperature changes. The effect of the linear and quadratic regression between the race time and the distances are mathematically proved. The age influenced only the variety of the trait speed.
The broodmares belonging to the lines of Faruk and Skovronec born horses with race potential over the average of the population. There was established average hereditary determination of race time and speed.Key words: Arabian horses, Shagia type, heritability, race time
