Abstract

MIHOV, K., 2000. Effect of long storage of white cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) in Bulgaria, Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 6: 165-168

The purpose of the investigation is to study the storage duration and the size of the losses in the stored fresh produce of white cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.). The following cultivars have been investigated: Balkan – the control, Erdeno F1, Ramco F1, Quisto F1, and Bislet F1 (origin – Sandoz Seeds), Menza F1, Sagitta F1 (origin – Royal Sluis), Rodolfo F1, (origin – Bejo Zaden), Dobrowodske polopozdni and Trwanliwa D (SEMPRA).
It was established that the efficiency of the storage depends on the propertities of the used cultivars. The choice of the respective cultivar is related with the preliminary planned period of storage. The most appropriate for long storage (for a period of 4 – 4.5 months) cultivars from the tested ones are Menza F1, Quisto F1, Erdeno F1, and Ramco F1, in which the total loss is from 18.3 to 20.3 % from the quantity put under storage.
