Relations between leaf area and leaf dimensions of two cultivars and two hybrids of sunflower were studied. It was found out that maximum accuracy of leaf area calculation can be achieved by using a product of two leaf dimensions, one of which is the length of main nerve. The most suitable formula for calculating the leaf area of the object of study is length by width by 0.679. Depending on the genotype, the phase and the level, a relative error of ±20¸22% can be addmitted in calculating leaf area. The coefficient in the formula for leaf area calculation has to be determined for every cultivar or hybrid.
