MIRKOVA, E., M. TODOROVAand V. NIKOLOVA, 2000. Puccinia xanthii Schw. – life cycle and possibility to overwinter in Bulgaria. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 6: 419-422

Puccinia xanthii (the causal agent of rust on Xanthium strumarium) is microcyclic autoecious rust. It forms only teliospores which are able to infect 3 days after the inoculation. There are suitable conditions in our country and Puccinia xanthii successfully overwinters on leaf debris in the open. Primary infections occur in the second half of may and the disease develops through the whole vegetation.
