Abstract

DATTA, J. K., A. K. GARAI and A. ROY, 2000. Bio-efficacy of Treflan 48 EC (trifluralin) against the weeds of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 6: 645-649

Two years experiment with eight treatmens viz. 48 EC (trifluralin) @ 840, 960 1080, 1200 g ai ha-1, stomp 30 EC (pendimethalin) 937.5 g ai ha-1, fluchloralin 45 EC @ 1125 g ai ha-1, hand weeding (HW) twice (20 DAP and 40 DAP) and weedy check was conducted against the weeds of potato which revealed that treflan 1200 g ai ha-1 was equally effective with pendimethalin in respect of reducing weeds number/m2 and weed dry weight/m2 .WCE, chl.content in potato leaf and tuber number/plant was noted to be higher in HW twice followed by pendimethalin and treflan 1200 g ai ha-1. Treflan 1200 g ai ha-1 recorded at par effect with pendimenthalin in terms of chl. content in potato leaf. Higher tuber bulking rate was noticed in all the herbicide treatments and HW over control. Higher and at par tuber yield was recorded in HW twice, pendimethalin and treflan 1200 g ai ha-1. But return/rupee invested for weeding estimated to be higher in treflan 1200 g ai ha-1 whereas HW twice estimated the lowest return.

Key words: chlorophyll, herbicides, potato, weed control
Abbreviation: ai = active ingradients; chl = chlorophyll: DAP = days after planting; FW = fresh weight; HW = hand weeding; TBR = tuber bulking rate; WCE = weed control efficiency
