Abstract

TODOROV, I., P. IVANOV, K. KOSTOV and I. IVANOVA, 2000. HMW glutenin subunit composition of wheat varieties and lines from different origin. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 6: 617-626

Using of the electrophoretic method for fractionation of HMW glutenins of 153 bread wheat varieties and lines from different origin, 31 subunit patterns were determined. Patterns N 7 + 9 5 + 10, 2* 7 + 9 5+10 and 1 7 + 9 5 + 10 had the highest share. The HMW-GS patterns indicated above resulted from combination of the 14 HMW glutenin subunits or subunit pairs: 1, 2* and null, coded by the Glu-A1 locus; 7+8, 7 + 9, 6 + 8, 7, 17 + 18, 20 and 22 – by the Glu-B1 locus and 5 + 10, 2 + 12, 5 + 12 and 2 + 12'– by the Glu-D1 locus. The highest score (9) belonged to the accessions from Ukraine and Russia, and the lowest – to those from West Europe (5.4). In the accessions from the other countries it varied from 6.9 to 8.1. The application of the established subunit variation in the studied accessions for breeding aiming at creation of quality wheat varieties is discussed.
