Morphological Characteristics and Yield Structure of Some Brussels Sprouts Hybrids (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera L.)

The purpose of the present investigation was to study the complex of morphological characteristics and the productivity of some Brussels sprouts hybrids (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera L.) and to recommend hybrids that are suitable for late field production. During the period 1997 – 1999 The following hybrids were tested: Rider F1, Diablo F1, Citadel F1, Billion F1 and Acropolis F1. Seven morphological characteristics and the harvest index were analyzed, as well as the total and standard yield and the yield from sprouts with size of 20-25 mm and 25-35 mm. Variability of all the studied morphological characteristics was established. The highest harvest index – 18.89 % and 18.70 %, was registered for the hybrids Diablo F1 and Acropolis F1, in which the highest standard yield was observed also – 12 480 kg/ha and 16 500 kg/ha, respectively. The produce obtained from Diablo F1 intended for refrigeration is 11 450 kg/ha, while that from Acropolis F1 is 10 235 kg/ha, and it comprises 91.75 % and 62.03 % from the total standard produce, respectively. It was established that of the five tested Brussels sprouts hybrids the highest yield of quality produce was obtained from Acropolis F1 and Diablo F1, due to which they are recommended to be used into practice.
