NAKOVA, R., 2003. Study of the competition between wheat and Avena fatua (L.). Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 9: 335–338
Field experiments were conducted during 1994–1998 in the Plant Protection Institute, Kostinbrod. The objective of this research was established the effect of density (0, 5, 15 and 30 plants m–2) of Avena fatua on wheat growth parameters and yield. Statistical models formulation to predict the decrease the level of height, length ear, fresh, dry weight, leaf area and wheat yield.
Result of investigation showed, that density of Avena fatua is a major factor governing the wheat growth, development and yield. Wheat height, length ear, fresh, dry weight, leaf area and yield were strongly influenced by weed density in five years. An increase in Avena fatua density from 5 to 30 plants m–2 decrease the wheat growth parameters and yield. These statistic regression models may have practical applications. They predict the damages of wheat production in competition with Avena fatua.
